Zero/three calls Italy

Every year, while organising Visioni, we realise that the offer of shows for very young children is limited to just a few ones, in particular from Italian theatre companies.
Judging by the proposals we receive, it seems clear that to “produce shows for boys and girls from 0 to 3” is not a priority in the Italian TYA scenario.
It might be for commercial reasons or for the difficulties encountered in finding “stable allies” at a local level, or maybe it’s just because a sceptical view of children as “spectators” is still widespread amongst our Italian colleagues.
This is why we created Zero/Tre chiama Italia, a project aimed at encouraging Italian TYA companies to produce shows for children aged 0 to 3.
So, we contacted a few Italian companies who have never produced for this age group: by offering them a new challenge, they might decide to start their own journey and approach the youngest spectators.
Three companies have accepted our invitation: Teatro nel Baule (Naples), Teatro Koreja (Lecce) and Schedía Teatro (Milan),
who will be creating a presentation to bring to Visioni 2022.
In Bologna, the relationship between Theatre and Educational Services is so deeply rooted it is taken for granted, but it might not be the same in the rest of Italy.
So, the companies will be guests of both the Theatre and the Crèches of our city: it will be an opportunity to study, reflect, and find new perspectives, and at the Festival they will be able to exchange, share, and collect ideas, presenting the first steps of their future (possible?) research work.
What lies ahead of these first steps, no one knows, but there’s a good chance this opportunity will give life to shows for the little ones.
And if this happened, they will certainly be part of Visioni 2023.

The project will be presented to the guests of the Festival and the members of Lo Sguardo Altrove.
